Helene’s professional learning session on ‘Tips and Tricks’ for teachers differentiating for students at risk in the classroom, was a practical one-hour session. Teachers gained a clear understanding of how students might struggle in the classroom setting and how they can differentiate their lessons to ensure all students show growth with their learning. The information shared were strategies that could be applied instantly in the teachers’ classrooms. Helene’s classroom teaching and MSL tutor experience enable her to confidently and easily explain strategies that teachers could apply also with confidence. I highly recommend her sessions to any school who is committed to all students showing spelling learning growth and want their students to be confident when spelling.

I highly recommend booking in Helene to share her knowledge and resources with staff and parents to support an awareness for children who may be affected by dyslexia. We as a school were gifted with not only Helene’s knowledge but also educational resources, strategies and interventions that we implemented easily into our teaching the next day. Added bonus was Helene’s authenticity in the way she connected with us all - beautiful and real.

Helene launched her Dyslexia Unravelled website this year with a great deal of helpful and insightful information for parents and teachers. As a teacher and mother of a dyslexic child, I found a wealth of information that I could implement at home and in my classroom. Helene came to our school and ran a PD for our staff and helped to demystify dyslexia. As she has worked with many dyslexic children, she was able to speak from first hand experience as to the best strategies to help these students. Helene’s presentation was teacher friendly and we all walked away with many useful strategies that were easy to implement. A very useful PD for primary school teachers.

Helene came to Beaumaris North Primary school for a PD session on dyslexia. She presented the information in a humorous manner and gave me many useful and practical ideas to support and assist children with dyslexia. I have implemented many suggestions into my teaching methods.

Helene came to our school to PD the staff on dyslexia. I found her session informative and a breath of fresh air with many useful tips to implement in the classroom. Helene is extremely knowledgeable about dyslexia and offered a wonderful insight into this very common learning difficulty. I definitely recommend booking Helene for a staff PD at your school.

“The teaching team at Wilson Street Kindergarten participated in a workshop with Helene in 2022.  Through Helene’s knowledge and passion for supporting children with dyslexia the staff were able to build on their awareness and confidence to recognise potential language delays.  Staff were given useful strategies and tools to build into a play-based learning and development program.”

“Helene taught me things that other teachers couldn’t teach me. She explained reading and spelling to me so I could understand it. Helene was always patient, kind and encouraging to me. I feel very privileged to have had Helene work her magic and help me.”

“My child was 5 and the term ‘dyslexia’ was thrown at me at school pick up one day. I was shocked, As a parent with little understanding of dyslexia I felt lost, overwhelmed and failing for not knowing how to help my beautiful little girl. A friend suggested I contact Helene as a tutor. Stella now confident and making progress. Dyslexia can be a barrier to learning unless you have the right skills to teach them the way they need to learn. Helene does this and is a huge advocate for dyslexic people. Every child deserves to learn and be taught the way they learn best.”

Mary Cole

You may not know this about me but I am dyslexic.

  • I must work harder than most people to read and write. That was until Helene came along. Helene inspired me everyday. She helped me feel good about myself. She made learning fun with word games. I am not the only person she helped, Helene inspired lots of kids to learn.

Helene came into our lives when we felt loss and grief after an education psychology report gave us no hope that our little one would be able to progress academically at all.

At the start of grade 1 my little girl was at reader level 0 and only mastered the golden words ( that took an entire year)....unable to write a letter and no maths ability at all.

Helene and the classroom teacher worked so well as a team to include biweekly MSL sessions which were followed up in the classroom , allowing my little girl to progress to a solid level 8 reader(92% level 9) complete all 100 magic words, achieve 1/2 year prep level writing ability and maths by the end of grade 1.

Fast forward to end of grade 2 and she is reading at a strong grade 3 level, writing at the low end of the bells curve and made up 2 1/2 years of maths at end of grade 2.

Yes we have loads of work to do still; but if we go by this trajectory we can achieve anything. The bonus is that she has transformed into a girl that is happy to try new things and write us little letters- not perfect; but she has developed a self- believe that she can...

I hope this gives others some hope. Grit coupled with a strong team and the right MSL support can achieve the impossible!

Helene played a pivotal part in our girl’s development both academically and socially.

As a parent of a child with dyslexia, having one place to find information is so important. It is so overwhelming when you find out your child has dyslexia and very few people know where to start so that they can support their child on the journey. Dyslexia Unravelled offers clear, succinct and positive messages. Dyslexia can be a gift so thank you for highlighting the fact that with the right intervention and support our children can fly!
